Party Planning in Scotland, or should I say Africa?

Although I am mainly known for being a wedding consultant, I also enjoy being a party planner in Scotland, and have had the chance to work with some incredible people over the years to create some truly magical parties and events. This party was one of the most memorable!

An African Adventure

There are times in your life when you meet people and immediately know that it is going to be a fantastic experience.

Tom and Deb had thought about hosting a party to celebrate Deb’s birthday, but had kept putting it off and so when I first went to see them, they were still not 100% sure they would go ahead with the party. But, by the end of the meeting after lots of ‘what ifs‘, ‘can we‘, and ‘will that even work‘, we decided that they had the absolutely perfect setting at home to throw the party of the year.

We literally transformed a courtyard, a loading ramp, part of the original dairy farm, and a barn (which was full of the normal family living overspill of bikes, mowers, tools and oil cans) into a themed, magical space reminiscent of Africa!

Party Suppliers

We had amazing lighting production teams, a theming company, florist and sound technicians, who all played their part in transforming this space into an African dream night of dining under the stars.

Entertainment was provided by the most incredible SoulBrothers band who played some 70’s and 80’s epics.

Dinner was a culinary banquet filled with the flavours of Africa, with an array of different dishes and accompanied with delicious fine wines – no wonder it was a memorable night after all of this!

After Dinner

After dinner the main marquee was redressed for a more evening ‘feel’ with daybeds set down enveloped with swathes of soft fabrics giving the feel of sitting or lounging on soft cushions and fabrics in the desert. It was wonderful to see all the expressions of sheer disbelief when these everyday areas, that friends and family had seen for years, were transformed into this African dream!

About 11pm we had another change of scene and the guests were entertained through to the wee small hours by a fantastic duo of a saxophonist and a Percussion DJ. They produced a truly amazing sound and were a fantastic addition to an already incredible party.

This truly was one of my most memorable parties that I have been lucky enough to help organise. A beautiful family who threw the most beautiful night for their families and friends – it’s certainly a night none of them will ever forget! It was a joy to work on and a joy to meet such a fantastic family…….can we do it all again next year please!!!!
